Elvetham Woodlands
Elvetham has 1,600 acres of woodlands, 470 acres of which is cared for in-hand. The remaining acreage is currently leased to the Forestry Commission.
The in-hand woodland is managed through a multi-strategy approach that ensures both continuous cover and sustainable timber production. We selectively fell trees according to age, species and condition. Mature timber is harvested by clear or group felling. Developing crops are harvested by intermediate thinning.
Areas of harvested timber are restocked by replanting, natural regeneration or a combination of the two.
As well as being farmed for timber, the forestry and woodlands play an important role in the provision of leisure and conservation space.
