In 1535 King Henry VIII visited Elvetham. It was then the home of the Seymour family. In 1536 Jane Seymour became his third wife. She became the only one of King Henry's wives to receive a Queen's funeral and his only consort to be buried alongside him.
The local cricket club in Hartley Wintney was founded in 1770, making it one of the oldest grounds in the country.
